Angry Lu!

(Ann Arbor, Michigan) Burning a red flame through my head

My Fall Break is not what it is supposed to be. Seeing as this the only time I would get to relax before the course load took its effect again, I actually planned to travel around and explore in this few days.

But the change of the season is not kind to me. On the first day of Fall Break, I suffered from severe migraine and laid in my bed for few hours without getting up. If that is not bad enough, my bones started to ache with every movement. My spine felt like it aged several decades or so.

So, I’m practically grounded in my room throughout the day. I drank a whole can of Coke hoping that the caffeine in it can act as pain killer, since I don’t drink coffee. Not sure if it helps but my bones are not aching that much for the time being. Feeling that my condition will alleviate on the next, it pains (literally) me to discover that I’m not feeling any much better. So, I decided to put myself in a little bit of physical exercise to boost my healing but high impact movements like punching and kicking added to the intensity of my migraine.

One might wonder why I did not just rely of modern medication to aide in the recovery. Truthfully, I wasn’t much of a pill person. I rejected consuming pills everytime I gotten ill or so. I believed I haven’t touched Panadol in a long long time, over a time period of a few years at least, each time reverting back to the age old tradition of Vitamin C and sleep. But as I rolled about on my bed, wondering how did my weekend dissapeared just like that, I glean hungrily at the bottle of unopened Panadol in case of emergency and at the same time, figuring how can I finish my work on economics and politics in time.

Oh, another burst of migraine just occured and I…have the pill in my hand.

Time is money. Or so goes the age old saying.

Unfortunately, for my case, it literally means money! For those who know me really well in these past year, they can tell that I procrastinate a lot, up to a point where I have to admit that I am very lazy. I’m trying to remove this habit of mine.

I procrastinate when about going to the bank to settle my visa application fee, I arrived just when the bank is about to close down. Not only did I lose 1 working day for the bank to process my request, I put strains on my tightly packed plans for the week. Coupled in with some unwanted misfortunes at the moment, I’m trying to juggle my schedule so that I could squeeze just enough time for me to accommodate everything I have now. Sigh, I wasted money on transportation without achieving anything I intended to do in the first place.

I misscalculate the inefficiency of the local train service, KTM which cause me to doubt if monopoly is really the way to go for a service like this. A presence of competitor might be a wastage of resources but the appailing services of KTM should be improved for the benefits of its customers.

The next day, I was supposed to meet up with other people for some gathering or so. But because of the irregular train service (KTM again!) and a little bit of procrastination on my side, I missed the supposed time by a mile. I may missed out on a great learning opportunity on the gathering, but my trip with Jason to Lowyat Plaza serves as an adequate compesation for it.

The downside to all my travel is that I wasted time and money getting on the move twice for something I could accomplish in one trip. I’m really upset with myself because of this.

I’m fuming now. Why can’t people just open their mouth and ask? Today, I meet two computer illiterate Blacks (didn’t mean any racial discrimination here) trying to print out their lecture notes in the printing center. They were taking their sweet time mumbling around and rummaging through the computer. Being the nice and patient person that I am, I don’t care about them that much.

But the agony of waiting turns to minutes and yet they were still printing something (unfortunately, the printing center only has one computer for printing). Soon, another foreign student joined me. He was not as patient as me and within minutes, he already start grumbling to me about them.

By now, half an hour passed, and finally, one of them finish, I was about to go for my turn when his friend said: “Wait, I want to print too”. That was the last straw. Even the shop owner was also wondering what they are doing. Does it takes a man half an hour to print any lecture notes? Everyone in the center was looking at them before this, but they act like they know how to operate things. So, we keep mums. Turns out, they don’t know how to print with the computer, they do not understand the function of macro and painstakingly prints each and everyone of the slides which their lecturer gave them.

If they only open their mouth and ask, it would had been over within minutes. Instead, it took half an hour to complete. True, I am at fault too because I should have asked them what’s wrong. In the end, the owner’s son took pity on me and help me print out just one flimsy paper. Half an hour for just one paper. Not a good trade off at all!

My internet connections nowadays are so terrible. I am already having trouble trying to post anything because of the extremely slow speed or because of its frequent disconnection or unavailability. Seriously, a university college thinking of producing first class thinkers should have first class facilities. And yet, they are hampering us, the students from achieving our potential because of disastrous surfing experience.

So, to any other universities or colleges dumb enough to try and outsource their internet provider, remember this name. Do not seek any services from EBB – Extreme Broadband. Or as it is fondly known here, Extreme Boleh Balik to some of the more vulgar words you can think of starting with the letter “B”.
